Theme for English B

Theme for English B

The first thought that came to estimation when reading this metrical composition, Theme for English B, by Langston Hughes was the dichotomy organism used of blacks and whites; along with the differences and similarities that ultimately connect everyone together. During this time current there was controversy over segregation and inequality. Using my compass knowledge from US History, in this specific time full stop that this poem was being written occurred when the Harlem Renaissance was taking bureau. With this in mind, Hughes word choice and sentence fluency give bump off a blues/jazz vibe. Since this was a time for transformation and flourishing of black literacy and musical culture, this would make sense to why he incorporated this tone throughout his poem.
As I read through this poem a second time, I got that he receives an assignment from his white instructor to write a poem. Hes in college and he is the only diagonal student in the class. The more I read I notice how he goes from singular to plural in ordain to show how we may have physical differences (black and white), but we completely learn from one another despite ethnicity.

It almost makes me expression like Langston Hughes gains more confidence or reassurance towards the end of the poem. sensation sentence that stuck out to me was, I guess being dark doesnt make me NOT like the same things… This serves as a double negative, which ultimately is a positive contention being made. Hughes then goes on to comparing himself to the instructor with their various race but in reality there real isnt any other difference between them.
The poem itself is a metaphor for a colored man move to make his way in a white ground and the ways they are both changed by it, considering the events taking place during this time period. If you want to get a full essay, coiffe it on our website: Orderessay
