Oedipus Rex is a book written over 2000 years past but still provides one of the most misunderstood characters, Oedipus. Oedipus was subjected to practically of critism from many different snugglees. The critics doubt the integrity and ethics of Oedipus era others defend him because of his predicament. Those that critique him say he acted selfish and exacting and those that defend feel for him because of his inescapable fate layer stilt on him from the gods. Either way they both use philosophical and historical approaches to determine who the true Oedipus is. Critics use the historical approach in Oedipus Rex by evaluation the life of the character; in this case it would be Oedipus. He was crippled and abandoned by his parents in fear that an prophet they received would come true. The oracle stated that he would kill his father and sleep with his mother. His parents were stimulate by this and proceeded to let him go. This shows who the real Oedipus, he is a dupe being played by the gods. The historical approach is apply here by looking at his early life, he was abandoned before he could fend for himself, before he could talk, before he could walk but yet he will be a murderer and incest. There is no possible way Oedipus could have wanted or intend for this to happen. He must be a victim of fate.
