Winston Smith Winston is the protagonist of the story, whose unsuccessful attempts at questioning and overthrowing the c entirelyer and astronomical Brother symbolize the defeat of humanity at the transfer of socialism. Winston becomes de-humanized when his thoughts and emotions argon controlled by the ships company and when all his ambitions are snuffed by party propaganda. He awaits under the close eye of Party officials and the telescreen every wink of his life, so that he has to control nevertheless his facial expressions so as non to reveal his averse(p) thoughts. His important trouble with the Party is their manipulation of history, and he greatly fears the moment when no one will have any memories of genuine history, and will only know history as the Party involves to tell it.
